Dear Reader,

Mary Ann Liebert
Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2010. We are very proud of what we have accomplished over these 30 years as an independent, fully integrated media company. As we move into 2010, we look forward to continuing to build upon the vital mission on which the company was founded. From our inception, the goal has been to create authoritative international journals, books, and publications in embryonic and cutting-edge fields; their mandate has been to be broader than repositories of literature. These publications have played and continue to have an important role in advancing critical research and facilitating collaboration in academia, industry and government, and are also highly respected resources for legislators, policy makers, and educators.
We are well known and admired for our prescience. Our flagship publication, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology News (GEN) made its debut in 1981, and was the first trade magazine in what was then a fledgling industry. Today GEN is the most widely read publication in the world in its field, and our company is acknowledged as the leading publisher in biotechnology. We published the first scientific journal on AIDS, well before it was declared a threat to public health. Other firsts in their fields are our journals such as Human Gene Therapy; Tissue Engineering; Cloning and Stem Cells; Biosecurity and Bioterrorism: Biodefense Strategy, Practice, and Science; and Stem Cells and Development. We're very proud that Human Gene Therapy was designated as one of the most important journals in the last 100 years by the Special Library Association in celebration of its Centennial Anniversary in 2009. In the field of law, we launched Biotechnology Law Report; Gaming Law Review and Economics; and Election Law Journal: Rules, Politics, and Policy. Our most recent journal, Sustainability: The Journal of Record capitalizes on the global environmental imperative.
We enter our 30th year with exuberance, experience, and high expectations. We embrace new business models such as open access, and continue to invest substantially in technology-enabled content delivery systems and solutions in order to maximize the promise of global scientific exchange. Ours is a very special company; we know how to identify and meet new challenges and will continue to respond quickly and effectively to the needs and preferences of our constituents. It is most gratifying that members of our staff have long standing tenure with the company. These accomplished professionals know the publications well, and their relationships and interactions with our distinguished authors, editors, contributors, and readers are highly praised. And we have had fun along the way, such as enjoying our film credit as a science consultant for the movie Jurassic Park.
As we enter this 30th year, I want to openly thank our staff, authors, editors, contributors, and readers. There is a Mary Ann Liebert at Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. Your recommendations and input are always welcome. Celebrate this important milestone with us!
Sincerely,
Mary Ann Liebert
