Can Sustainability Education Help Save Universities and the Environment?
New Rochelle, NY, December 18, 2012—The emerging field of Sustainability Science could offer solutions to two critical problems: the global environmental crisis, and the perceived devaluation of a traditional liberal arts education in light of skyrocketing college costs. Sustainability programming is rapidly expanding at institutions of higher education worldwide; and in order to succeed, it must utilize a new system of delivery, rather than a new curriculum, according to an insightful Commentary in Sustainability: The Journal of Record, a publication of Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., publishers. Sustainability Science is a transdisciplinary field that builds on environmental studies programs and integrates knowledge and problem-solving strategies integral to other areas of science, economics, business, and the humanities. It encompasses core competencies in ethics, communication, management, and critical thinking.
