Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts MUST be submitted online using the following URL:  http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/aerosol

TITLE PAGE.
The title page should include the authors’ names and affiliations, the source of a work or study (if any), and a running title of about 45 characters. We require the full mailing address and contact information (telephone, fax, and email address) for EACH author listed on your paper. Indicate academic degrees and affiliations of all authors and indicate clearly the author to whom correspondence should be sent.

ABSTRACT. For all original papers, the next page should consist of a structured abstract of no more than 300 words, which should be self-explanatory without reference to the text. The structured abstract should consist of:  Background, Methods, Results and Conclusions.  Abstracts for review papers may be unstructured.

KEYWORDS. Please provide several keywords below the abstract.

TEXT. The manuscript should follow this format: abstract; introduction; materials and methods; results; discussion; acknowledgments; author disclosure statement and references. Number pages consecutively. Prepare all manuscripts double spaced leaving ample margins on top, bottom, and sides.   At the end of the manuscript, give the name and address of the individual to whom reprint requests should be directed. For all material sources, such as devices, drugs, etc., indicate manufacturer/supplier name, city, state, and country.

TABLES. Prepare tables double-spaced, one to a page and placed after the references. Each table must stand alone, i.e., contain all necessary information in the caption and be understood independently of the text. Avoid repetition of information that is given in the text. Each table must have a title.

FIGURES. Figures must be submitted using the following guidelines:

  • When appropriate line drawings instead of photographs should be used.
  • Each figure should be numbered, and reducible to 60% with labels still readable.  Do not put legend on the figure.
  • Figure legends must be prepared as an enumerated list on a separate page after the references.
  • Do not include any illustrations as part of your text file.
  • Do not prepare any figures in Word, as they are not workable.
  • Line illustrations must be submitted at 1200 DPI.
  • Halftones and color photos should be submitted at a minimum of 300 DPI.
  • Adobe is the preferred software. Avoid submitting PowerPoint files.
  • Save art as either TIFF or EPS files. Avoid submitting JPEG and PDF files.
  • Color art must be saved as CYMK, not RGB.

FOOTNOTES. Type footnotes double-spaced on a separate page. Footnotes should be used only when essential.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS. Collaborations, sources of research funds, and other acknowledgments should be listed in a separate section at the end of the text ahead of the REFERENCES section.

DISCLOSURE STATEMENT. Immediately following the Acknowledgments section, there should be a header entitled “Author Disclosure Statement.”  The corresponding author should prepare this statement and include the appropriate information for EACH author, thereby representing that competing financial interests of all authors have been disclosed.  If no conflicts exist the authors must state, “No conflicts of interest exist.”

AUTHOR DISCLOSURE

All authors are expected to disclose any institutional or commercial affiliations that might pose a conflict of interest regarding the publication of a manuscript. Institutional affiliations, as indicated on the title page, should include all corporate affiliations and any funding sources that support the work. Other types of affiliation, including consultantships, honoraria, stock ownership, equity interests, arrangements regarding patents, or other vested interests should be disclosed in the Acknowledgments section.

REFERENCES. All references must be cited in the text with superscript numbers, in numerical order, beginning with “1.” References must be typed double-spaced and numbered by order of citation. All authors’ names of cited works must be listed (do not use “et al.”). Translate into English all foreign article and book titles. If a work is in press, give the journal in which it is to be published, followed by “in press” in parentheses. Submitted manuscripts not yet accepted for publication and personal communications should be cited in the text only. Journal abbreviations should follow Medline style (see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=pubmed).
