Marin Community Foundation

Aviva Shiff Boedecker is Director of Gift Planning for the Marin Community Foundation in California. She started the planned giving program for San Francisco Ballet in 1984 and then worked in the planned giving office at her alma mater, the University of California at Berkeley for almost ten years, serving as its director for most of that time.

Aviva is a former member of the Board of the National Committee on Planned Giving, was President of the Northern California Planned Giving Council and is a member of the Marin Leave A Legacy Committee. She was co-chair of the CASE Advanced Planned Giving conference in 1992, writes for many planned giving and general publications, and is a frequent lecturer on planned giving. She has also served on the Boards of many non-profit organizations, including the San Francisco Jewish Community Federation, the Belvedere-Tiburon Child Care Center and the Anti-Defamation League, Northern California Region.

She received a BA in English in 1975 from the University of California at Berkeley and in 1978 was awarded a J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Later that year Aviva was admitted to the California Bar, and subsequently endured five years in the private practice of law. Aviva likes planned giving better than litigation because "no one ever makes a gift unless they want to."
