    The Journal of Gynecologic Surgery will publish original papers and important review articles dealing with gynecologic surgery, including colposcopy, laser surgery, endoscopy, endoscopic surgery, conventional gynecologic surgery, infertility surgery, oncologic surgery, and female urologic surgery as well as subjects related to the aforesaid. Letters to the Editor, important commentaries, and announcements (of meetings, courses, preceptorships, etc.) also will be published.

    The Journal does not publish articles that have been published elsewhere.

     

    SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS

    Please upload individual files of all manuscript material—do NOT upload a single PDF file containing all text, figures, and table files of your article.     General Preparation of Manuscript

    Manuscripts must be double-spaced, with margins of 1 inch on each side, and ample space on top and bottom and prepared in Microsoft Word, PC, or Macintosh formats. Please identify the title and authors of the manuscript, its major contribution, suggested reviewers, and other factors as discussed previously.
     

    Please follow these guidelines for submitting artwork:

    • Do NOT embed art files into a Word or PDF document.
    • Line illustrations should be submitted at 1200 dpi.
    • Halftones and color should be submitted at a minimum of 300 dpi.
    • Save as either .tiff or .eps files.
    • Color art must be saved as CYMK - not RGB.
    • Black and White art must be submitted as grayscale - not RGB.
    • Do NOT submit PowerPoint, PDF, Bitmap or Excel files.

    Please name your artwork files with the first author’s name (i.e., SmithFig1.tif, SmithTable2.tif, etc.) Authors who do not follow these guidelines may have their submissions returned without being reviewed.

    You will be given directions on how to correct any files which do not pass.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT ART FILES

     

    Converting Word or Excel files:  Perhaps the best and easiest way to convert Word or Excel files into a format which is suitable for print is to scan them using the below guidelines:

    • All files should be scanned at 100% size.
    • 300 dpi
    • Final color mode: cmyk
    • save file as: .tif or .eps

    TITLE PAGE

    The title page must include the title of the article, authors' names, authors' affiliations (provided as footnotes), and a short title (no more than 40 letters and spaces) to be used as a running head.

    ABSTRACT

    Provide a structured abstract, double spaced, of no more than 250 words, summarizing the purpose of the study, the main findings, and the principal conclusions.

    For CASE REPORTS, the abstract should include the following headings sections in this order:

    1.  Background
    2.  Case
    3.  Conclusions

    For full scientific articles, the abstract should include the following section headings :

    1.  Objective
    2.  Design
    3.  Materials and Method
    4.  Results
    5.  Conclusion

    TEXT

    The text generally is organized under the headings: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion.

    Use only standard abbreviations, which can be found in the AMA's Manual for Authors & Editors or the Council of Biology Editors Style Manual. At first usage, in the Abstract, in the text, and in each figure and each table, spell out the term and give the abbreviation in parentheses. Thereafter, use only the abbreviation. It is not necessary to spell out standard units of measure, even at first usage.

    Use generic names for drugs if possible. If you wish to use a proprietary drug name the first time it appears, use the generic name followed by the proprietary name, manufacturer, city, and state or country in parentheses.  

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

    The author should acknowledge only those people and their institutions that have made significant contributions to the study.

    Disclosure Statement
     
    Immediately following the Acknowledgments section, include a section entitled “Author Disclosure Statement.” In this portion of the article, authors must disclose any commercial associations that might create a conflict of interest in connection with submitted manuscripts. This statement should include appropriate information for EACH author, thereby representing that competing financial interests of all authors have been appropriately disclosed according to the policy of the Journal. It is important that all conflicts of interest, whether they are actual or potential, be disclosed. This information will remain confidential while the article is being reviewed and will not influence the editorial decision. Please see the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals at http://www.icmje.org/index.htlm#conflicts for further guidance.

    REFERENCES

    References must be typed double spaced and numbered consecutively as they are cited in the text (using superscript numbers).  Example:  Recently, many surgical improvements have been proposed, among them the use of the carbon dioxide laser. 1-5,8  References appearing for the first time in tables and figures must be numbered in sequence with those cited in the text where the table or figure is mentioned.

    Use journal abbreviations as provided by MEDLINE.®  List all authors when there are six or less. When there are more than six, list the first three, followed by et al.

    If references to personal communication or unpublished data are used, they are not to be in the list of references. They should be referred to in the text in parentheses: (A.G. Bearn, personal communication).

    6. List all authors and initials, title of paper or article, name of site, and web address, starting with www unless there is no www in the address. Then you may use http://  Include month, date, and year accessed.

    CORRESPONDENCE ADDRESS

    Following the references, provide the name, degrees, and complete address, with postal code, of the person to whom correspondence should be sent. Also include an e-mail address.

    LEGENDS

    Type legends for illustrations double-spaced on a separate sheet. In the legend, provide explanations for any abbreviations, arrows, etc. on the art work. If the illustration is taken from a copyrighted publication, credit must be given in the legend and the authors are responsible for obtaining written permission and paying any fees imposed by other copyright holders, if applicable.

    TABLES

    Type tables double-spaced, each on a separate sheet, and provide a title for each table. Cite tables in sequence in the text. Explain abbreviations used in the body of the table in footnotes. If the table is taken from a copyrighted publication, credit must be given in a footnote.

    PERMISSIONS

    Materials taken from other sources must be accompanied by a written statement from both author and publisher giving permission to the Journal for reproduction. If clearance is required by the author's institution, statements concerning such clearance should be provided in the manuscript. Obtain and submit written permission from authors to cite unpublished data or articles still in press.

    REPRINTS

    Reprints may be ordered by following the special instructions that will accompany page proofs, and should be ordered at the time the corresponding author returns the corrected page proofs to the Publisher. Reprints ordered after an issue is printed will be charged at a substantially higher rate.
