Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. Launches New Journal on Sustainability
New Rochelle, NY, April 26, 2007--A new bimonthly journal, Sustainability: Research and Practice will be published by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. (www.liebertpub.com). Sustainability heralds a new industrial revolution that requires a broad transdisciplinary commitment. Available both in print and online, Sustainability: Research and Practice brings together researchers, educators, and administrators in higher education, corporate officers and administrators who are assuming sustainability responsibilities, policymakers, economists, technologists, and executives at all levels of business who have a commitment to and the responsibility for advancing efforts toward the preservation and sustainability of global resources. The premier issue will be published this fall.
The goal of sustainability is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. These goals necessitate a society that is environmentally viable, economically robust, and socially just and equitable.
Sustainability has an urgent imperative, a commitment that is shared by hundreds of colleges, universities, and corporations. This commitment will make possible new and rewarding career opportunities for those who will be able to direct and implement these new principles. These career paths will grow exponentially in academia, industry, and government.
Within its purview the new Journal will include a focus on the environment, global warming and climate change; and energy, ecological, and resource conservation initiatives to ensure a sustainable future, as well as societal considerations in a global context. The Journal will include peer review papers, news and commentary, interviews, and profiles of leading people as well as corporate profiles so that those who are leading by example can share information about programs that are replicable.
The Editor in Chief of Sustainability: Research and Practice is Tom Kimmerer, Ph.D. Dr. Kimmerer is the Executive Director of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, and was formerly a professor of forestry and natural resource management at the University of Kentucky for 18 years.
“Sustainability is an important emerging academic discipline as well as a major social and economic trend,” according to Dr. Kimmerer. “Sustainability: Research and Practice will provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to communicate with one another.”
